Climbing to 5,199 meters, Mount Kenya is the second tallest mountain in Africa. The scenery surrounding this designated World Heritage Site is breath-taking. It is pristine wilderness with lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forest, mineral springs and a selection of rare and endangered species of animals, high altitude adapted plains game and unique montane and alpine vegetation. You will enyoy camping and caving with the mountain’s rugged glacier-clad peaks providing the perfect backdrop.

Depart Nairobi and transfer to Nanyuki passing through the agricultural richlands of central kenya arriving in Nanyuki at the slopes of mount Kenya in time for early lunch and final packing relax at lodge and get ready for full adventure the next day we will assemble all our equipments meet with the guides and porters and make sure that everything is ready

This morning we will have a hot breakfast and a reasonably early start to make the most of the usually clearer conditions in the morning at Nanyuki Town, drive until Sirimon Park Gate (2,600m). After park entrance formalities, start hiking to Old Moses Camp (3,300m). You will climb through bamboo, rosewood and heather forests, viewing beautiful wildlife such as buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks and many bird species. Overnight at Old Moses Camp.

After an early breakfast, hike along the Mackinders Valley until Shipton Camp (4,236m), at the base of Mt Kenya’s high peaks. During today’s exciting trek, you will test your individual endurance while you hike across hills and valleys through the sprawling moorlands. During the day, you can enjoy wonderful views of the main peaks up above, as well as several unique plants and animals such as the giant groundsels, lobelias and the mountain rock hyrax.

Summit day! Start your journey nice and early at 3am. Hike up steep scree slopes and across rugged rocks up to Point Lenana (4,985m), the hiker’s summit. There, enjoy an outstanding sunrise, admiring Mt Kilimanjaro 340 kms to the south when the weather is clear. Then, hike back down to Shipton Camp and after a nice brunch, descend down to Old Moses Camp.

The day will be calm and the breakfast will be served at around 0700am, after a leisurely breakfast, you walk about 10 km down through the forest to meet our driver who will drive you down the rest of the track and on to Nanyuki town where we normally part ways with the other crews and we head back to Nairobi and have hot lunch on the way back to Nairobi arriving late afternoon with a drop off to your respective residential places of residence.

Sleeping Bag,
Gaiters: To keep mud, rocks, and snow out of your boots.
Water purification: This is essential as water for drinking is taken directly from mountain streams.
Hiking Boots: This is the most important item on the list. You’ll need a comfortable/waterproof pair of hiking boots which offer plenty of support. Make sure they are broken in before you get to Kilimanjaro/Mt. Kenya!

NB: Make sure that your boots are waterproof

2 – 3 packets of moist towelettes.
1 travel pillow (optional)

US $ Travellers cheques, toothpaste & tooth brush, body lotion, toilet paper and other personal hygiene items. (Ladies, please carry some sanitary toiletries as being at high altitude may alter your cycle).

Photographic (optional):

1 camera (plus spare batteries),film & tripod stand,different lenses,
1 pair of binoculars,video camera,video tapes, battery packs.
Miscellaneous (Optional):
notebook, pencil, sketchbook, masking tape, zip loc plastic bags, ear plugs, address list for post cards, map of Mount Kenya(the trip leader will have one).
